Scaffold Inspection Requirements in Ireland at Online Safety Courses: accredited online working at heights training with instant certificate for Ireland

Scaffold Inspection Requirements in Ireland

The seven day rule, inspection after alteration or bad weather, the competent person, scaffold tags and the record the 2007 Regulations require.

Scaffolds fail rarely and fall protection on scaffolds fails often: a missing guard rail, a board lifted for access and not replaced, a tie removed to get a lift in. Inspection is how those defects are found before someone leans on them. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 set out when scaffolds must be inspected, by whom, and how the inspection is recorded, and working at heights training teaches every user to look before they climb.

Why Choose Us

Why Take Your Working at Heights Course with Online Safety Courses?

Discover why workers and businesses in Ireland, from Dublin, Cork, Galway and beyond, choose Online Safety Courses for working at heights training.

The working at heights course at Online Safety Courses fits Ireland working life perfectly. From Dublin's construction cranes and Cork's pharma plants to Galway's medtech campuses, Limerick's manufacturing belt and the farms, hotels, warehouses and hospitals in every county between, Irish workplaces run on certified, compliant staff. Instead of losing a day to a classroom, learners in Ireland complete the full accredited training online, in about 1-2 hours, from home or straight from the workplace.

Local employers know exactly what they are looking at when your certificate arrives: CPD Certified, RoSPA approved, HSA aligned training from a provider used by businesses across every county in Ireland. The unique verification code on every certificate makes checks instant, whether you work in Dublin, Cork or Galway.

For businesses, the free Employer Dashboard turns a team rollout into one afternoon of work: bulk registration, live progress and every working at heights certificate in one clean screen, with automatic volume discounts applied at checkout.

This working at heights course was designed from day one for busy working people. Every lesson streams on any device, every pause saves your place, and nothing needs installing. HD video, animation and interactive questions turn the hierarchy of controls, ladder rules and harness systems into knowledge that actually sticks.

The syllabus tracks exactly what the HSA expects: hazard assessment before every job at height, ladder and stepladder safety, fall arrest, scaffolds, fragile roofs, MEWPs and rescue planning. Scenes come from real Irish sites, not stock footage from abroad.

Whether you are a self employed roofer getting site ready or a safety officer certifying a full crew, the working at heights training flows without friction from registration to certificate.

A classroom work at height day costs far more than the ticket price: travel, lost hours and scheduling headaches. The online working at heights course removes every one of those costs. Staff certify from home, the office or the site cabin, starting the moment you enrol them.

Managers see each completion in real time and can hand auditors a full training record in seconds. Stack the automatic volume discounts on top and this becomes the most economical accredited working at heights training available in Ireland.

Pricing is honest: one figure covers the full course, unlimited retakes and the instant working at heights certificate. No add ons, ever.

Nobody learns well against a stopwatch. The self-paced working at heights course lets you move at whatever speed suits, pausing on any device and resuming exactly where you left off. Shift workers, busy trades and site crews all finish comfortably.

A clear progress tracker shows how much of the working at heights training remains and how close the certificate is. Some learners complete it in one focused sitting of about 1-2 hours; others take a few short sessions across the week. Both work perfectly.

Assign it to employees and they will slot it around real work without disruption, one of the main reasons Irish employers return to Online Safety Courses year after year.

There is no waiting around. Pass the assessment and the digital working at heights certificate is generated on the spot, aligned with Irish legislation and recognised across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

It lives permanently in your account for re-download during audits, site inductions, tenders and insurance renewals, and its unique verification code lets any employer or inspector confirm it instantly.

On a CV, the certificate signals competence on ladders, roofs, scaffolds and platforms, a requirement on more Irish sites every month.

Every module comes from licensed, Chartered (CMIOSH) health and safety consultants holding NFQ Level 6 and QQI Level 6 qualifications, people who have investigated real falls on real Irish sites.

That experience shows: you learn the correct ladder angle by eye, how to inspect a harness in under a minute, where fragile roof surfaces hide and why the rescue plan is written before the first boot leaves the ground. Case studies from Irish sites make each lesson concrete.

Content is re-reviewed against current legislation and HSA guidance, so the working at heights course never drifts out of date.

The platform never closes. Start the working at heights training on a quiet night shift, continue on Saturday morning and finish over lunch on Monday, whatever rhythm suits your life.

Progress syncs across every device automatically, so switching from phone to laptop mid module is seamless. Night crews and remote sites get exactly the same premium experience.

Crews can also reopen the ladder or harness modules as a refresher right before a job at height, turning the course into a living safety reference rather than a one time event.

Online Safety Courses has certified more than 749,500 learners across Ireland, the UK and Europe, with a 98% pass rate and a 4.9 star average from verified Google reviews we cannot edit or hide.

From Dublin to Cork, Galway to Limerick and Waterford to Belfast, our working at heights training keeps crews safe above ground and businesses clear of enforcement.

Employers come back because it simply works: clean records, instant certificates and a support team that answers.

Legally, anyone whose work could involve a fall liable to cause injury. The 2005 Act and Part 4 of the 2007 Regulations put the duty on every employer, and the HSA checks training records during inspections and after every reported fall.

Practically, that means construction workers, roofers, scaffolders, electricians, painters, window cleaners, warehouse staff on ladders and mezzanines, solar and telecoms installers, maintenance crews, apprentices and self employed trades needing proof for tenders and inductions.

If your boots leave the ground at work, on anything from a stepladder to a scaffold, this course applies to you, and our Irish support team will happily confirm which other courses your role needs.

Essential Knowledge

Scaffold Inspection Requirements in Ireland

The seven day rule, inspection after alteration or bad weather, the competent person, scaffold tags and the record the 2007 Regulations require.

When a scaffold must be inspected

Before it is first used; at intervals not exceeding seven days while it remains in use; after any event likely to have affected its strength or stability, such as high winds, impact from plant or a partial dismantling; and after any alteration. The inspection covers the base, standards and ledgers, ties, bracing, boards, guard rails, toe boards, ladders and access, loading and the general condition of the ground and the structure it is tied to. A scaffold that has not been inspected inside seven days is not to be used.

Who inspects and the record

Inspection is carried out by a competent person with the training and experience to recognise defects in the type of scaffold concerned; in Ireland that is normally a person holding a scaffolding qualification under the construction skills certification scheme or an experienced scaffolding supervisor. The result is recorded before the end of the working period in a scaffold register, traditionally on the GA3 form, showing the location, the date, the findings, any defects and the action taken, and the record is kept on site and available to the HSA inspector.

Tags and the user's own check

A tag system at each access point tells users at a glance whether the scaffold is inspected and safe, incomplete, or not to be used. A green tag with a recent date is the sign to look for; no tag, a red tag or an out of date tag means stay off and report it. Users make their own check before climbing every day: guard rails and toe boards in place at every lift, boards complete and secured, ladders tied and extending above the platform, ties intact and nothing overloaded. Anyone who alters a scaffold without being competent to do so commits an offence and endangers everyone on it.

Before use, every 7 days, after events

High winds, impact, alteration or partial dismantling trigger a fresh inspection.

Competent person, GA3 record

Qualified scaffolder or supervisor, recorded in the register, kept on site.

Green tag or stay off

No tag, red tag or out of date tag means do not use. Check rails and boards yourself daily.

Our accredited Working at Heights Course covers scaffold inspection, tags and the daily user check, with a CPD certified certificate the moment you pass.
