The practical controls that keep water systems safe: hot water at 60 and 50, cold below 20, weekly flushing, dead leg removal, shower head cleaning, tank inspection, cooling tower treatment and the records to keep.
Legionella control is not complicated; it is disciplined. Keep hot water hot, cold water cold, water moving and systems clean, and check that all four are true on a schedule. Every task below appears in a typical written scheme of control for an Irish building, and every one of them has been missing in a real outbreak.

Real water systems and clear photographs turn the science of legionella, the five step risk assessment and the control measures into knowledge you can actually use the next time you walk your premises.
The syllabus tracks exactly what Irish law expects from every duty holder: understanding how Legionnaires' disease spreads, assessing the water systems you control, and running the temperatures, flushing routines and cleaning schedules that keep people safe.
Whether you need your own certificate for a new role or you are certifying a whole facilities team, the legionella training flows without friction from registration to certificate.

A clear progress tracker shows how much of the legionella training remains and how close the certificate is. Some learners finish in one focused sitting; others spread it across a few breaks. Both work perfectly.
Assign it to your team and they will slot it around their schedules without disrupting the work, one of the main reasons Irish employers return to Online Safety Courses year after year.

It lives permanently in your account for re-download during audits, insurance renewals, tenancy handovers and job applications, and its unique verification code lets anyone confirm it instantly.
For duty holders, every certificate is dated proof that the people running your water systems are trained and competent, exactly what matters if an inspector or an insurer ever asks.
Every module comes from licensed, Chartered (CMIOSH) consultants working with current Irish health and safety law and Health and Safety Authority guidance.
That experience shows: the science of legionella explained through recognisable water systems, the risk assessment taught with the situations duty holders actually meet, from old calorifiers to vacant properties, and the control measures presented the way they actually work on an Irish premises, never as abstract theory. Practical judgement runs through every lesson.
Content is re-reviewed against current legislation and the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Legionellosis, so the course never drifts out of date.
The platform never closes, which matters when the work never really does either. Start the legionella training after a shift, continue at lunch the next day and finish on a day off, whatever rhythm your week allows.
Progress syncs across every device automatically, so switching from phone to laptop mid module is seamless. Night staff, part timers and weekend crews get exactly the same premium experience.
Teams can also reopen the risk assessment module before an audit or the control measures module when a system changes, turning the legionella course into a living reference rather than a one time event.
Online Safety Courses has certified more than 749,500 learners across Ireland, the UK and Europe, with a 98% pass rate and a 4.9 star average from verified Google reviews we cannot edit or hide.
From Dublin to Cork, Galway to Limerick and Waterford to Belfast, our legionella training helps Irish premises stay compliant and keeps the people who use them safe from Legionnaires' disease.
Employers come back because it simply works: clean records, instant certificates and a support team that answers.
Every organisation and person in control of premises with water systems, because the law places the duty squarely on whoever controls the risk. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Chemical Agents Regulations 2001, duty holders must assess and control hazards such as legionella, and the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Legionellosis names trained, competent people as the way it is done. Waiting until someone falls ill is the one strategy the law does not forgive.
In practice, the people taking this course with us are facilities and maintenance managers, landlords and letting agents, hotel and leisure teams with spa pools and showers, care home and school managers, gym owners, and the employers and building owners responsible for them.
If your premises has water systems that people use or that can release water droplets into the air, this training is for you, and our Irish support team can help roll it out across every location.
The practical controls that keep water systems safe: hot water at 60 and 50, cold below 20, weekly flushing, dead leg removal, shower head cleaning, tank inspection, cooling tower treatment and the records to keep.
Hot water stored in calorifiers and cylinders at 60 degrees Celsius or above and reaching every outlet at 50 degrees or above within one minute of running. Cold water stored and distributed below 20 degrees, reaching outlets within two minutes. Where thermostatic mixing valves blend water to prevent scalding, they are fitted as close to the outlet as possible and the pipework upstream stays at the control temperatures. Monthly checks at sentinel outlets, the nearest and farthest from the source, and a rotating sample of the rest, recorded with the date and the reading.
Flush little used outlets weekly for several minutes until the temperature stabilises, with the water running directly to the drain to limit aerosol. Remove dead legs and redundant pipework rather than isolating them. Size cold water tanks so the water turns over within about 24 hours and consider removing tanks where mains pressure allows. Bring empty buildings and seasonal facilities back into use with a full flush, temperature check and, where the assessment requires, disinfection.
Clean, descale and disinfect shower heads and hoses at least quarterly. Inspect cold water tanks at least annually for sediment, scale, corrosion and biofilm, keep lids fitted and insect screens intact, and clean and disinfect when needed. Inspect and drain calorifiers annually to remove sludge. Treat cooling towers and evaporative condensers with a biocide programme, clean and disinfect them at least twice a year and monitor the water chemistry; they are the highest risk systems and the source of the largest outbreaks.
Temperature monitoring is the primary check. Sampling for Legionella is used where the assessment identifies a need, for example in healthcare, where temperatures cannot be maintained, or after remedial work, and results are interpreted with the HPSC action levels. Records of every check, task, result and corrective action are kept in the logbook, reviewed by the responsible person and available to inspectors. Staff who carry out the tasks are trained and their training is recorded too.
Stored hot at 60, delivered at 50 within a minute, cold below 20 within two.
Little used outlets run to drain weekly; dead legs removed.
Showers quarterly, tanks yearly, cooling towers twice yearly, everything logged.
Every control here is explained with the reason behind it in the accredited Legionella Course, so the people doing the checks understand why they matter. CPD certified certificate on completion.
