The rules every ladder user in Ireland should know: the 75 degree angle, three points of contact, the belt buckle rule, securing the ladder and when a ladder is the wrong tool.
Ladders cause more falls from height than any other piece of equipment, and most of those falls follow the same few mistakes: the wrong angle, overreaching, an unsecured ladder, the wrong ladder for the job. Irish law allows ladders for low risk, short duration work when a safer option is not reasonably practicable. These rules make that work as safe as it can be.

Ladders are for short duration work. Guidance across Ireland and the UK uses about 30 minutes in one position as the point at which a safer platform should be considered.

Local employers know exactly what they are looking at when your certificate arrives: CPD Certified, RoSPA approved, HSA aligned training from a provider used by businesses across every county in Ireland. The unique verification code on every certificate makes checks instant, whether you work in Dublin, Cork or Galway.
For businesses, the free Employer Dashboard turns a team rollout into one afternoon of work: bulk registration, live progress and every ladder safety certificate in one clean screen, with automatic volume discounts applied at checkout.
This ladder safety training course was designed around real working schedules: shift patterns, site hours and no spare afternoons. Every lesson streams on any device, every pause saves your place, and nothing needs installing. Clear visuals, a dedicated video lesson and interactive exercises turn risk assessment, inspections and setup rules into knowledge you can actually use at the foot of the ladder.
The syllabus tracks exactly what the HSA expects wherever ladders and stepladders are used: justifying the ladder in the first place, checking it before every use, setting it up with the 1 in 4 rule, securing it properly and keeping three points of contact while you work. Examples come from real Irish workplaces, from building sites and warehouses to shops, offices and farms.
Whether you need your own certificate for a new job or you are certifying a whole team, the ladder safety training flows without friction from registration to certificate.
A classroom ladder safety course means lost work days, travel and cover costs, often across several staff at once. The online ladder safety course removes all of it. Staff certify from home or the workplace, starting the moment you enrol them.
Managers see each completion in real time and can show an inspector the complete training record in seconds. Stack the automatic volume discounts on top and this becomes the most economical accredited ladder safety training available in Ireland.
Pricing is honest: one figure covers the full course, unlimited retakes and the instant ladder safety certificate. No add ons, ever.
Working schedules leave no room for fixed course dates. The self paced ladder safety course lets you move at whatever speed suits, pausing on any device and resuming exactly where you left off, before a shift, after work or on the commute home.
A clear progress tracker shows how much of the ladder safety training remains and how close the certificate is. Some learners finish in one focused sitting; others spread it across a few breaks. Both work perfectly.
Assign it to your team and they will slot it around the rota without disrupting work, one of the main reasons Irish businesses return to Online Safety Courses year after year.
There is no waiting around. Pass the assessment and the digital ladder safety certificate is generated on the spot, aligned with Irish legislation and recognised across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
It lives permanently in your account for re-download during HSA inspections, job applications, tenders and insurance renewals, and its unique verification code lets any inspector confirm it instantly.
For career progression, a ladder safety certificate is proof of work at height competence that employers in construction, maintenance, warehousing, retail and facilities ask for by name.
Every module comes from licensed, Chartered (CMIOSH) consultants who know exactly what Irish inspectors check on inspection day.
That experience shows: risk assessment explained with real cases, pre use checks that catch the defects inspectors see most often, setup and securing methods demonstrated in the right order and safe working practices that hold up on a busy site. Real Irish workplace examples make each lesson practical rather than academic.
Content is re-reviewed against current Irish legislation and HSA guidance, including the HSA information sheet on using ladders safely, so the ladder safety course never drifts out of date.
The platform never closes, which matters when your working week barely does either. Start the ladder safety training after work, continue before a shift and finish on a day off, whatever rhythm your week allows.
Progress syncs across every device automatically, so switching from phone to laptop mid module is seamless. Shift workers, site crews and warehouse teams get exactly the same premium experience.
Teams can also reopen the inspection module before an audit or the setup module before an unusual job, turning the ladder safety course into a living safety reference rather than a one time event.
Online Safety Courses has certified more than 749,500 learners across Ireland, the UK and Europe, with a 98% pass rate and a 4.9 star average from verified Google reviews we cannot edit or hide.
From Dublin to Cork, Galway to Limerick and Waterford to Belfast, our ladder and stepladder safety training keeps Irish workplaces compliant and people safe.
Businesses come back because it simply works: clean records, instant certificates and a support team that answers.
Almost every business. The General Application Regulations 2007, Part 4, applies the moment anyone works at a height where a fall could cause injury, and that includes changing a light fitting from a stepladder, stocking a high shelf or clearing a gutter. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 requires employers to provide the training needed to do those tasks safely.
In practice, the people taking this course with us are construction and maintenance workers, electricians, painters, warehouse and retail staff, cleaners, window cleaners, facilities teams and farmers, plus the owners and managers responsible for their safety.
If your workplace has a single ladder or stepladder, this training is for you, and our Irish support team can help roll it out across every location.
The rules every ladder user in Ireland should know: the 75 degree angle, three points of contact, the belt buckle rule, securing the ladder and when a ladder is the wrong tool.
Set a leaning ladder at an angle of about 75 degrees: one unit out from the wall for every four units of height. A 4 metre ladder rests with its feet about 1 metre from the wall. Too steep and it topples backwards; too shallow and the feet slide out.
Keep two hands and one foot or two feet and one hand on the ladder at all times when climbing and, where possible, when working. Carry tools in a belt or hoist them separately. Face the ladder when climbing and descending.
Keep your belt buckle between the stiles: if you have to lean out, climb down and move the ladder. Do not stand on the top three rungs of a leaning ladder or the top two steps of a stepladder unless it has a purpose designed platform and handrail.
Tie the ladder at the top, or at the base, or use a stability device; footing by a second person is a last resort. Ground must be firm and level, the ladder resting on a strong surface, never on gutters or glazing. Inspect before use: stiles, rungs, feet, locking bars and ropes.
Ladders are for short duration work, as a guideline up to about 30 minutes in one position, and light work where the user can keep three points of contact. Longer, heavier or two handed tasks call for a tower scaffold, a podium step or a mobile elevating work platform.
One unit out for every four up, feet on firm level ground.
Two hands and a foot or two feet and a hand, tools in a belt.
Around 30 minutes and one handed work; otherwise use a platform.
Every rule is explained and tested in the accredited Ladder Safety Course, with a CPD certified certificate the moment you pass.
