Where the law on abrasive wheels sits today, what happened to the 1982 Abrasive Wheels Regulations, and the duties on training, mounting, guarding and speed.
Ireland once had dedicated abrasive wheel law: the Factories (Abrasive Wheels) Regulations 1982. Those were revoked when the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 came into force. Today the duties live in Part 2, Chapter 2 of the 2007 Regulations on the use of work equipment, backed by the general duties of the 2005 Act, and they are at least as demanding.

Yes in practice. The 2007 Regulations restrict the use and mounting of specific risk equipment to trained, designated persons, and Section 10 of the 2005 Act requires the training that makes them competent.
No. They were revoked by the General Application Regulations 2007. The same protections now come from the work equipment chapter of the 2007 Regulations.
The law sets no date. Three years is the accepted refresher interval, with earlier retraining when new machines or wheel types are introduced.

This abrasive wheels course was designed from day one for busy working people. Every lesson streams on any device, every pause saves your place, and nothing needs installing. HD video, animation and interactive questions turn wheel markings, mounting procedure and guarding rules into knowledge that actually sticks.
The syllabus tracks exactly what the HSA expects: wheel types and speeds, inspection and storage, mounting and balancing, dressing, guards, PPE and the mechanics of wheel breakage and kickback. Scenes come from real Irish sites and workshops, not stock footage from abroad.
Whether you are one tradesperson getting site ready or a safety officer certifying a whole crew, the abrasive wheels training flows without friction from registration to certificate.
A classroom abrasive wheels day costs far more than the ticket price: travel, parking, lost hours and scheduling headaches. The online abrasive wheels course removes every one of those costs. Staff certify from home, the office or the site cabin, starting the moment you enrol them.
Managers see each completion in real time and can hand auditors a full training record in seconds. Stack the automatic volume discounts on top and this becomes the most economical accredited abrasive wheels training available in Ireland.
Pricing is honest: one figure covers the full course, unlimited retakes and the instant abrasive wheels certificate. No add ons, ever.
Nobody learns well against a stopwatch. The self-paced abrasive wheels course lets you move at whatever speed suits, pausing on any device and resuming exactly where you left off. Shift workers, parents and busy trades all finish comfortably.
A clear progress tracker shows how much of the abrasive wheels training remains and how close the certificate is. Some learners complete it in one focused sitting of about 1-2 hours; others take a few short sessions across the week. Both work perfectly.
Assign it to employees and they will slot it around real work without disruption, one of the main reasons Irish employers return to Online Safety Courses year after year.
There is no waiting around. Pass the assessment and the digital abrasive wheels certificate is generated on the spot, aligned with Irish legislation and recognised across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
It lives permanently in your account for re-download during audits, inductions, tenders and insurance renewals, and its unique verification code lets any employer or inspector confirm it instantly.
On a CV, the certificate signals competence with grinders, cutting discs and abrasive equipment, a real advantage for site, fabrication and maintenance roles.
Every module comes from licensed, Chartered (CMIOSH) health and safety consultants holding NFQ Level 6 and QQI Level 6 qualifications, people who have investigated real wheel accidents in real Irish workplaces.
That experience shows: you learn to read a wheel's markings at a glance, feel for damage the right way, mount and true a wheel correctly, set guards properly and choose PPE that actually protects. Case studies from Irish workshops make each lesson concrete.
Content is re-reviewed against current legislation and HSA guidance, so the abrasive wheels course never drifts out of date.
The platform never closes. Start the abrasive wheels training on a quiet night shift, continue on Saturday morning and finish over lunch on Monday, whatever rhythm suits your life.
Progress syncs across every device automatically, so switching from phone to laptop mid module is seamless. Night crews and remote sites get exactly the same premium experience.
Crews can also reopen the mounting or guarding modules as a refresher right before higher risk grinding work, turning the course into a living safety reference rather than a one time event.
Online Safety Courses has certified more than 749,500 learners across Ireland, the UK and Europe, with a 98% pass rate and a 4.9 star average from verified Google reviews we cannot edit or hide.
From Dublin to Cork, Galway to Limerick and Waterford to Belfast, our abrasive wheels training keeps workshops, sites and factories compliant and their people intact.
Employers come back because it simply works: clean records, instant certificates and a support team that answers.
Legally, anyone who mounts, dresses or uses an abrasive wheel at work. The 2005 Act and the 2007 Regulations put the duty on every employer, and HSA inspectors ask for the training records.
Practically, that means construction workers with angle grinders and consaws, fabricators and welders on cutting discs, fitters at bench grinders, stone masons, plumbers, maintenance crews, apprentices and self employed trades who need proof for tenders and site inductions.
If a rotating abrasive wheel is part of your work in any form, this course applies to you, and our Irish support team will happily confirm which other courses your role needs.
Where the law on abrasive wheels sits today, what happened to the 1982 Abrasive Wheels Regulations, and the duties on training, mounting, guarding and speed.
Regulations 28 to 43 of the 2007 Regulations require employers to select suitable work equipment, maintain it, ensure it is used only by trained persons, guard dangerous parts, provide controls and information, and inspect equipment exposed to conditions causing deterioration. Regulation 31 specifically requires that where work equipment presents a specific risk, its use is restricted to persons given the task, and repairs, modifications and servicing are done by designated competent persons. Mounting an abrasive wheel is exactly that kind of task.
Section 10 of the 2005 Act requires the training necessary to do the job safely. For abrasive wheels the accepted content mirrors the old 1982 schedule: hazards and precautions, wheel markings and speed, storage, handling and inspection, mounting, balancing, guards, dressing and truing, and the correct use of the machine. Employers keep a record of the people appointed to mount wheels.
Every abrasive wheel must be guarded so that the guard contains fragments if the wheel bursts and prevents contact with the wheel, with the guard adjusted as the wheel wears. The maximum speed of every wheel must be marked, and the spindle speed of every machine must be marked so the two can be compared. Wheels may only be run at or below their rated speed.
Replaced by Part 2 Chapter 2 of the General Application Regulations 2007.
Specific risk equipment: use, mounting and servicing only by trained, designated persons.
Wheels guarded and marked; spindle speed marked; never overspeed.
The accredited Abrasive Wheels Training course meets the training duty for users and people who mount wheels, with a CPD certified certificate to file.
